The LeCoultre Company was founded in 1935 and produced some of the most iconic luxury mantle and table clocks in the world. The Atmos clock is unique as it winds itself using fluctuations in ambient temperature and air pressure. This clock operates almost friction-free without batteries or manual winding, making it one of the most ingenious clocks ever produced. The clock features polished gilt brass with glass panels surrounding the visible precision movement. The clean white chapter ring, applied gilt numbers and markers, and floating pendulum create the refined Mid-Century Modern aesthetic for which Atmos clocks are renowned. Atmos clocks have long been presented as diplomatic gifts and are displayed in prestigious institutions around the world. This particular clock retains the original 1981 small brass plaque commemorating the recipient's 25 years of service with the Union Carbide Corporation.
